Artist's Comments

Ok, so this is BOUND to have a couple people wanting to start a flame war about some of the things said in this stamp...

However, be aware that this stamp was not intended to OFFEND anyone.

I made it a while ago after having a multi-person chat with a few of my friends from here on MSN, and they all had the same view pretty much on how the -popularity- levels here on DA have left them feeling unsure about their interpretations and expectations of this site as of late.
I'm putting it up now because I myself am starting to wonder if DA is really a place for artists, or just a competition rally to see who can make it to the -popular- page.
I'm sure PLENTY of the people who do make it there never have full intentions or knowledge that their artwork will land them there, but there ARE some who KNOW full well that if they keep doing what they did to land them a slot on that page in the first place, they're bound to keep getting a slot up there with every work they put up.
Whether it be causing a stink about something, or repeating the same thing over, and over, and over, and over, OR because they're just that damned popular in the first place.
I started here on DA in the summer of 2004, I do believe, and even though my screen name has changed recently, the knowledge of how things work here has not. 4 and a half years is more than enough time to realize that at least 40% of DA's population think DA is a popularity contest (there are no exact numbers, but believe me, that's a close estimation)
I can whole heartedly say that my previous bout of popularity on my last page was all caused by one thing; my wolves.
I constantly got comments and notes about how AWESOME or AMAZING my wolves were, and a couple of times they even landed me a spot on the front page.
I drew many different things, many of which made me much prouder than ANY of my wolf drawings, but they never got so much as a sniff of recognition compared to the furred canines people so 'loved' in my gallery, which pretty much nailed me as a 'wolf artist'
I did NOT appreciate that.
I can only hope others understand the meaning behind this, and I'm sure there's a few other 'long time deviants' that feel the same way.

I join DA back in May 13 2007. I know i don't got a lot of poeple watching but i don't not really care how many are watching. I just like posting my art.


I did get two flamer bug me about how i drew and i spell.

i couldnt care about page view, they mean nothing too me i want too be able too remove the page view count from my page really as i dont give a damn about it so why should i have too keep it when i couldnt care less. too bad you cant removed the stupid counter as it is useless anyway.

i really dont think you should say about people only notcie other if they draw wolves i draw wolves and i have never done it just too be seen i have drawn them since i was little but now coz of the people that are popular for wolves i get labled a wanna be when i have drawn them for over 20 years (i quit art for a few year so they didnt improve coz of that) but you can say what you want anyway.

yeah i feel the same i came here as i had the drawing skills but since then da has changed so much it's not like it used too be which is sad :( but im not gonna stop what im doing coz of people now 'hate' wolves, if i could draw other things better i would post them as well but i dont feel like my other things are good enough so i dont want too post then as they look terrible.

i see the point you are making and you are right it's stupid people only get notice for all of that, will da ever be the art site it used too be :(

I concur, what happened to DA? Tiny critique, for those of us who like to read stamps, slowing the text down a tiny bit would be nice.

I agree. I have like thousands of different ideas floating around in my head that I wanna draw, but not all of them involve wolves. I don't like being labeled like that either, but sometimes, some people are expecting me to draw wolves all the time, like that's all they think I ever do. It's unfair.

I wasn't aware of this things either. I admit I do fanart, but only because I really like drawing art of something I admire and appreciate especially when I find I can make something interesting and original through it.

I have a load of watchers, but very few of them matter, like about 5-8 of them are real watchers who look at my art and comment on my journals and stuff, they matter to me more than having 10000 watchers.

I'm starting to grow more and more respect for you by each passing day. You're nailing views that many people (including myself) don't care for or don't pay attention to. All these labels and dramatic events are getting tiresome, and I'm glad that some people can see the variety in my art enough not to give me a sadly-misplaced artistic label. Think of it, though. A new profile could mean a new start. ^^
